Any piano teacher who is willing to be an OPTN contact can
start a group.
Email optn@opteachernetwork.com to get going!
What is required of an OPTN Contact?
A group contact must be willing to select meeting dates, time and an accessible location for each gathering for the teaching year. We recommend 3 to 4 meetings per year. The group contact will have their name and email on the OPTN website. We recommend that the group contact email reminders to their local members about upcoming meetings.
How Do I Start A Group?
The best way to start a group in your area is to reach out to other piano teachers you already know and start meeting-up. It's that simple! Encourage the teachers you know to invite others. Start small, stay small, grow members...each gathering may have different teachers each time. There is no right or wrong way to host a meeting.
How Do I Run A Meeting?
An agenda is not required however it is important to keep the conversation on topics related to piano teaching, running a studio, advertising, time management etc.
Foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere for all teachers in attendance
Every contribution should be acknowledged with respect, and all questions should be regarded as valuable opportunities for discussion and learning
Encourage the sharing of teaching ideas, strategies and resources with each other
Be aware of power dynamics within the group to ensure that all members feel equally valued and respected
Allow the conversation to evolve organically or have a meeting topic to begin the discussion
Creating space for humour, camaraderie, and mutual appreciation strengthens the sense of belonging within the group and contributes to a positive and nurturing atmosphere
